Version 3.0.0 — Genomes, Redesign & Submissions Overhaul

April 25, 2026

A brand-new game mode, a top-to-bottom visual refresh, and a much-improved submission pipeline.

EthnoGuessr Genomes

  • Genomes Daily is now live, with its own daily schedule and leaderboard.
  • Each round shows a real submitted DNA result; you guess the ancestry breakdown across regions.
  • Simplified ancestry report at round end, with adaptive scoring tuned to how close your percentage allocations are to the real breakdown.

Site-wide redesign & gameplay

  • Refreshed look and feel across the homepage, game modes page, leaderboards, account pages, the in-game UI, the submission flow, and admin pages.
  • Markers are now draggable.
  • Removed the forced round-end delay and associated toggle option
  • New in-game tutorial walks first-time players through the controls.
  • Indicator dots in the face modal show when there are multiple photos to flip through.
  • In-game performance improvements

Submissions overhaul

  • New Genomes upload flow lets you contribute your own 23andMe or AncestryDNA results, with privacy controls over what is shown publicly.
  • Approved submissions are now automatically slotted into upcoming daily rounds.
  • Privacy settings on the upload status page let you control what is shown publicly for your submissions.

Version 2.1.0 — Accounts & Leaderboards

December 17, 2025

User accounts and competitive features are here!

  • Added user accounts — sign up with Twitter/X or Google to track your progress.
  • Added daily leaderboards for EthnoGuessr Daily, Countries Daily, and DoggoGuessr Daily.
  • Your first game of each type per day is ranked on the leaderboard.
  • Leaderboards show the top 100 scores, with ties broken by game duration.
  • Added account profile page showing your recent games and statistics.

Version 2.0.1

August 1, 2025

This update is intended to improve the new UI, especially on desktop.

  • Added options in the settings panel to disable the round-end delay and the face modal being automatically closed at round end.
  • On screens wider than 1200px the round-end modal pops up on the right-hand side rather than the center of the screen. Round-end delay is disabled on such screens.
  • If the face modal is kept open at round end, the round-end modal snaps its height to it.
  • Round-end modal can be dragged to take up the entire screen.
  • Clicking on images in the face modal pops out a full-size image. Clicking again closes it.
